Little Brown Pen

I was off work yesterday (thanks, jury duty!) and rather than accomplish the items piling up on my to-do list, I decided to browse around Little Brown Pen (the same folks behind the Paris in Color series) to see what they’ve been up to and boy, did I come across some good things.  Let’s start finding a way to project ourselves in photographs, okay science?

Lately

Whoops! Apologies for my radio silence these past few weeks. We’ve been having too much fun in Austin these days and sitting on my computer (after spending 8 hours on it already) has been the last thing I wanted to do when I could be out gallivanting around town. But now that it’s getting a bit cooler, and things are starting to hit a slower pace (until the holidays!) I started missing my little blog and thought it might be fun to share some of the things we’ve been up to these last few months.

Here are a few snapshots of our new life in Austin…

A Miss Shortcake and Mama’s Cake doughnut from Gourdoughs. A M A Z I N G!

Trying our hands at stand up paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake. We only managed to fall down a handful of times! ;)

Keeping Austin Weird at  Deep Eddy pool.

Spending rainy days and nights with wonderful friends  (and having way too much fun).

Seeing Junot Diaz and Stephen Tobolowsky speak at Book People – for free! – and leaving inspired. (Please excuse the blurriness of the photos, I was trying to be “stealth”)

Embracing fall pumpkin-fever with a spicy pumpkin bundt cake.

Checking out local spots featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The chicken burger and sweet potato fries at Counter Cafe (exactly what Guy had on the show) are TO DIE FOR.

And that’s not even the half of it. We’ve also toured the haunted spots of Austin IN A HEARSE, seen a number of live shows (including The Dig and comedian Rob Delaney), and have visited a new bar every week. We’ve been seeing and doing so much in Austin that I’d love to start sharing more of what we do on here (I’ve been thinking this blog needs a new direction anyway) but in the meantime, follow me on Instagram to see more updates and fun finds.

Here’s to a great week with new adventures!

xoxo Lauren

Fictitious Dishes

Gorgeously imagined meals from famous literary works by Dinah Fried. The simple and structured setting of each photograph speaks volumes about their book’s tone/character, and I think Fried captured each novel spectacularly. I hope we get to see more fictitious dishes from Fried in the future!

Catcher in the Rye

Oliver Twist

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Alice in Wonderland

Moby Dick

Back in the Austin Groove

After months of anticipation, an intense weekend of moving, and immediately jumping into working from home, I can finally say I’m settled in Austin, TX! And it feels so good! Even though I grew up here, it feels like a brand new city seeing it as an adult and I’m beyond excited for all the exploring we’re about to do (and have done so far!). In just one short week, Austin life has already been so good to us, and I know it can only get better from here. Yeee haww!

Thanks for sticking with me while I was getting settled. Let’s have some fun!
